also known as Howei Fort, is an artillery fort built in 1886, covering an area of about 8 hectares. The fort was built under the leadership of Taiwan's first governor Liu Mingchuan, and its purpose was to defend Taiwan's Danshui Port. 滬尾礮臺即滬尾砲臺為建造於1886年的火炮砲台,佔地約8公頃。該砲台為台灣第一位巡撫劉銘傳所主導建造,其建造目的是為了防衛台灣淡水港。 從捷運淡水站公車候車處搭乘紅26公車,至「滬尾砲台(忠烈祠、球場)站」,再往忠烈祠方向步行約5分鐘後可達。 於捷運淡水站公車候車處搭乘836遊園公車,至「滬尾砲台(雲門劇場)站」下車。

In the 1880s Imperial China (Qing dynasty) and France fought a war over an area that is today Vietnam. In October 1884 as part of the Keelung Campaign, the French fleet sailed to northern Taiwan where it blockaded the ports of Keelung and Tamsui, and then landed troops at both places. The Chinese managed to turn back the assault at Tamsui, though Keelung fell to the French.
