The Roosevelt, and their other place, Eau de Vie, are amazing cocktail bars within walking distance of each other. They're both very different vibes, the Roosevelt being retro Americana and Eau de Vie more a discovery of a hidden bar in one of Sydney's boutique hotels, The Kirketon. But these guys kill it in the international cocktail competitions. There's a lot to get through in the multiple page menu... and there is serious mixology going on with some of the more complex drinks. The food offerings are ok for a bar... but that's not really why you're here...

Opened in 1947 by Abe Saffron, the Roosevelt in Potts Point was the most successful and infamous club in Australia. It brought a touch of Hollywood to town, with wonderfully produced shows, the likes of which had not been seen in Sydney; Sammy Davis Jr, Ella Fitzgerald and Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra were flown in to perform. The club became the most important stop for Sydney’s elite, including politicians, high-ranking police and judges. Early photos show Australia’s high society in attendance; the men dressed in double-breasted suits and hats and the ladies in evening gowns and furs. It was all glitz and glamour - and it's a tonne of fun and more than a bit glam to this day.
