This rustic, family run Mersea restaurant is the place to go for seafood. This place is all about the basics and they really focus on delivering the best locally caught seafood around. Internationally renowned chefs such as Rick Stein and Jay Rayner have praised the restaurant and it has been recognised in the Times, the Guardian and Independent as being one of the best fish restaurants to experience. Make sure you book in advance and remember they are only open Wednesday-Saturday. You can also bring your own wine and bread to the restaurant although they do sell their own wines as well.

No wine, no waiters, no finery... just a weatherbeaten BYO beside the briny. But with seafood this good there's no better place to be stranded at high tide, was Jay Rayners comment on this unique but amazing place to eat

Great place to eat fresh fish or take away fresh fish. Advise booking in advance. You can take your own wine/drinks in with you.

Seafood lovers must - locally famous for it's queues (but worth the wait) to get in as it's based on first come first served, BYO alcohol and bread - they'll do all the cooking of the seafood. Think basic surroundings - with elegant food, they have just recently started taking a small amount of bookings so good luck, you won't be disappointed.
