The freetown “Christania” is unique to anywhere else in the world. It is considered to be the fourth largest attraction in Copenhagen. A city within the city and independent of the Danish government, it is symbolic of the progressive and liberated Danish lifestyle.

Freetown Christiania is Copenhagen’s alternative neighbourhood. Christiania is a mix of homemade houses, workshops, art galleries, music venues, cheap and organic eateries, and beautiful nature. It is still a society within a society. The area is open to the public – even with guided tours, run by the local Christianites.

If you only have one day in Copenhagen I think Christiania is the place to go. 2 tips though: Go there during the summer and take some time to roam around. I see a lot of tourists walking through 'pusher street' and leave. Christiania is so much more than that.
