This place is my absolute favourite for a walk with everything to offer. With colourful rocks and fairy doors dotted along the riverside and the walk trails to jumping off rocks into the deep river, it has everything. There are two different cafes, Cooneys yard which has lovely food and serves dinner, coffee and breakfast and Crough coffee which serves coffees and buns mostly. Whether it’s winter or summer this is a great place to visit but we put this on our October-November Guidebook because of the spooky decorations and atmosphere of the wood at Halloween. Many scary stories are told of the woods. Walk the trail on Halloween night like the locals to see if you will make it back.

This is suitable for all ages. Beautiful scenery. Crough Coffee located at the entrance, with outdoor seating

I would recommend Crough wood because it is a great walk/run route that has different places to go from to make it steeper/easier/harder depending on who you are going with. The river Mahon provides you with beautiful views and is a great place to go to cool off after a run. Great place to go with kids as well, bring a fairy door to put at the start of the forest to make your mark, there are a lot of fairy doors there. After your walk/run you have a choice of going to two different coffee shops/restaurants. Crough coffee, which is more of a coffee shop, or Cooneys yard which is both. A lot of tourists don’t know about this place so it is mostly locals that go up, but it has gotten a lot more popular in the last few years with the new coffee shops opening up. Would highly recommend this route for anyone kids or adults or both!

There is a nice coffee shop based on the foothills of the Comeraghs where you can enjoy a well deserved tea or coffee and snack after you visit Crough Wood or Mahon falls
