Just 6 minutes drive from the Guesthouse, this former RAF Airfield from WW2 offers a glimpse at the past, with excellent displays and artefacts from wartime Britain. One of many airfields in the area, this preserved example explains why we still call Lincolnshire - Bomber County.

Metheringham is just 20 minutes by car from Ewerby. Metheringham Airfield Visitor Centre is a small museum dedicated to the men and women who served in and supported 106 Squadron, Royal Air Force Bomber Command from 1943 until the end of the Second World War. Based in buildings that were once part of the airfield’s communal site, the museum is the home of Dakota KG651, a veteran transport aircraft that saw service during the War. The museum’s wide range of exhibits give visitors a real sense of what it was like to live and work at RAF Metheringham during the war. Brand new for 2021 is the Commonwealth of Comrades exhibition, which tells the story of the men and women who came from across the globe to serve at the airfield. Visitors can experience each Lancaster bomber crew position, learn about the equipment each crew member used and the training they had to do. Another new feature is the Ditching Display, which features the museum’s rare World War 2 aircraft dinghy and a range of artefacts relating to ditching in the sea. The museum's Dakota KG651 is being faithfully restored to its former glory and represents similar aircraft from the US 52nd Troop Carrier Wing that carried wounded servicemen through RAF Metheringham on their journeys back to the United States. Visitors can board the aircraft and feel what it would have been like to have flown as a passenger on a Dakota, as well as sitting up front and getting a pilot’s eye view.
