Fantastic beach, sheltered from Atlantic, super clear water for swimming, great for kids to pier jump at high tide, amazing for a bbq, stunning views of Atlantic from cliff walk off the beach. Don't forget you can hire a SUP board or take lessons. Great beach for a walk.

Just outside of Westport, Old Head Beach is a family favourite of ours when we want a splash in the sea. The beach is family friendly, sheltered and patrolled by lifeguards. Great for trying SUP - stand up paddle boarding. Courses, summer camps and rental available from Summer SUP.

Love the Beach! Also walk beyond the beach and discover the amazing, though small, Old Head Wood. Walk through it at a slow pace and take in this tiny piece of old Atlantic Wood. Then exit the far side and walk along the cliff top fields, until you get a clear view of the great Atlantic Ocean and Clare Island in front of you. Spot the Cormorants, Seals, Dolphins, etc. Take note of the poor trees, bent over at 90 degrees eastwards from the fierce and unrelenting Atlantic winds.

Old Head is a lifeguarded beach during the summer months. Swimming, pier jumping, beach walks, Stand up paddle boarding summersup operate here and Old Head Forest is worth a stroll. Great view of Croagh Patrick from here.
