In Kiwa Irie’s Tasogare Takako, the main character—a 45-year-old divorcée named Takako—spends a lot of time here walking around at night drinking canned beer. This is a long stretch of riverside space where common folk would rest and relax during the Edo period. Now you can see buildings like the Tokyo Skytree from here. If it’s not too cold, I recommend grabbing food and drinks—maybe from a nearby convenience store for the real downtown experience—and coming out here for night picnicking. This is an especially popular cherry blossom viewing spot—at that time of year, show up early, because it gets crowded quickly.
