Food Scene

Absolutely excellent beer, service, and atmosphere! Even on a packed night, the bartender helped me choose a good local craft beer. It was harder than usual to do so, as they were having an American tap takeover in honor of the Fourth of July. Their chicken mushroom leek pie is scrumptious, and the crust is perfectly flaky.

Drinks & Nightlife

Don't let the fact that this place is a "secret" bar in Surry Hills, or the throng of hipsters that overwhelm you upon entry put you off, because this place is pretty damn great! First off, as others have said, you need to enter via an unassuming green/gold door on Campbell Street. Depending on the time you arrive, it is easier to locate due to the seemingly random location of a bouncer in the middle of the street. Once you work your way through the hipster crowd, I recommend heading to the stairs at the back and to the upstairs bar. It is much quieter, easy enough to find a seat and the bartenders are the best. Not at all your too cool for school type service you can expect from some bar

Shady Pines Saloon is one of these venues where you can sense a decorative purpose, a genuine effort to give the place an atmosphere that patrons will come and look for. The vibe is that of a saloon, possibly a Canadian saloon, or an American one, isolated in the Yosemite National Park. There is warmth and chatter, candle light and dancing shadows, a piano - of course - and a long wooden bar on which you'd expect the barman to poor a line of bourbon along its entire length and set it on fire for the last call.

Sightseeing

+ A great place to take as a shortcut on rainy days (decrease the chances of getting poured on) or hot days (air con is great). + Lots of tourists around xmas time. They have a gorgeous tree up. Take the stairs to the top floor, the view is gorgeous and a great spot for photos. + Information desk is in the middle of QVB. Lots of brochures and some tell the history of the QVB. + Safe location. Lots of commuters during commuting hour. + Lots of shops - pretty high end - and good eats on the ground floor. Photo of Queen Victoria Building - Sydney New South Wales, Australia. QVB during Xmas season

Parks & Nature

Great for playing tennis - Australian Open quality clay, as well as basketball. These courts are for hire, and bookings need to be made in advance. Great walking and bike riding trail. Great for BBQ's.

Arts & Culture

I could be in here all damn day. I pretty much was. Free entrance, free bag and coat check, free tours, free WiFi, and the weirdest, coolest, most historical art this side of the continent. Everything from Van Gogh and Picasso and Cezanne to the most obscure Aboriginal carvings and paintings and jewelry. Totally my favorite museum thus far in Sydney. I can sincerely say that if you're visiting and not coming here, you're missing out on a lovely experience, even if you're not a museum nerd like me.

A great mix of science, history, art, and design. With 4 levels, be prepared to spend at least 2 hours there (bring your walking shoes!). Complementary bag check near the entrance makes it more convenient. Oh and don't forget to look for a 20% off coupon in 'The Official Sydney Guidebook' located at the airport and i centers.

Shopping

World Square Shopping Centre actually has everything you need, in a kind of whacky layout. If I had to put a name to the shape of the centre, it'd be a kind of starfish shape. Plenty of good eats spread across all levels as well, to cater for any taste and any time of the day. There is also plenty of service facilities (a dry cleaner, an ATM from all of the majors, a post office, Medibank Private, Bupa, a Medical Centre, and a massage parlour); with Coles, Priceline, Liquorland, Miracle Asian Groceries, JB HiFi, and a swag of other shops where you're sure to find everything you need .

Getting Around

Central Station is the main train station in Sydney. This is the station to transfer between Sydney Trains services as well as the station to go to for inter-city travel for train service to other cities in Australia like Brisbane and Melbourne. In addition to train services, Light Rail has a stop outside of the station and there are bus services that are located close to here.
