One of the hidden gems of Dupont Circle. Savvy wooers bring their dates there, writers bring their notebooks and picnickers bring their lunches.
While wandering through Kalorama, it's always a special treat to find the secluded Spanish Steps. They were inspired by the marvel of the same name in Rome. The stairs are ensconced by magnolia trees and lead to a fountain with a lion’s head. Pack a picnic, or just stop to rest.
Off the Beaten Path - Walk north from the Dupont Circle fountain towards the Kalorama neighborhood. For a much prettier view of historic homes and embassies, avoid Connecticut Ave and instead take 22nd St NW, which will lead you to the "Spanish Steps" of DC.

“Tour President Woodrow Wilson's final, Georgian revival home, which looks the same today as it did when Wilson lived here in the 1920s. The historic site also hosts exciting events, from vintage game nights to garden parties in spring.”

“Eclectic museum with twists and turns, you could easily kill a couple hours here but do with it what you like. Be sure you locate the hidden door to the impressive “wine cellar” before you go. And no, that’s not the Amnesia room, which itself displays a large wine collection. One last thing, nearly everything you see is for sale! The O Mansion is open to the public daily for tours from 11-5pm, based on availability, with the last tour starting at 3pm. Online reservations are required.”
