Durham Castle is University College and so you can only visit on an organised tour. They are usually run by one of the students and very good and not very expensive. Visit the World Heritage Visitor Centre in Owengate, near the Castle for a ticket

Durham Castle is possibly the only castle to be used as a student dormitory! It can also be visited by tourists.

It's just opposite the Cathedral and is worth going on the tour, if you like this kind of thing!

Keep heading towards the River Tees, which requires you to first cross the main road. Then follow the footpath signs. It's about an hour walk to High Force and back.
