Piękne kobiety w historii ? ..... Kleopatra, Helena, Nefertiti, Audrey, Merylin. Na tej liście z pewnością powinna pojawić się Sissi. Któż nie słyszał o ekscentrycznej i niezwykłej żonie cesarza Franciszka Józefa? O jej długich włosach, łabędziej szyi, wąskiej kibici? Cesarzowa kochała grecką kulturę i piękne otoczenie, a że uciekała od sztywnej etykiety dworu wiedeńskiego, więc na swój azyl wybrała wyspę Korfu. Tu posiadała pałac Achillion. Sissi mogła stąd podziwiać widok morza i gór podczas codziennych, relaksujących spacerów. Mogła odpoczywać w ogrodzie pełnym palm i podziwiać piękno ciała i głębię przeżyć umierającego Achillesa, którego twarz przypominała jej tragicznie zmarłego syna- Rudolfa. Rzeźba herosa zdobi ogród. Mogła ukryć się przed słońcem i kontemplować w osłoniętych dachem, wspartych na kolumnadzie i ozdobionych rzeźbami filozofów i muz podcieniach. Krytycy Sissi wyjaśniają jej obsesję na punkcie wyglądu narcyzmem i próżnością . Czy mają rację? A może były to objawy depresji? Jedno jest pewne. Tutaj mogła poczuć się jak grecka bogini, równa Achillesowi. Z Rody do Achillionu jedzie się około godziny samochodem.

Corfu Achillion Palace: The Achillion Palace is ideally located in the picturesque village of Gastouri. This magnificent Palace was built in 1890 exclusively for Elizabeth (Sissy), the former Empress of Austria. The palace used to serve as the summer retreat of the Empress. Unfortunately, Sissy, the Empress, passed away in a rather tragic manner when she was brutally assassinated in 1898 in Geneva and the palace was deserted till the year 1907 when it was bought by Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany.

The beautiful Achillion is located 10 km south of Corfu town and 3 north of Benitsa next to the mountain village of Gastouri, is the palace built by the Empress of Austria Elizabeth who became known as the sad Queen Sissy. The queen, whose life became a movie, singled out Corfu on a tour of the Mediterranean islands and decided to settle here trying to overcome the grief from the tragic losses suffered by her family and the illness that afflicted her.
