Barley Bree was built in at the beginning of the 19th century by joiner James Ferguson. It started off as a humble inn with stables and a garden; over the years it has been extended and modernised while going through a roster of names. It has been the Drummond Arms, the Village Inn and Muthill Village Hotel. It became Barley Bree when the Bouteloups arrived in 2007. Muthill has been a conservation area since 1974 and over 90 of the buildings in the village are listed. Alison and Fabrice Bouteloup bought Barley Bree in 2007. He is a French-trained chef with an impressive pedigree, she is a wine expert who has been brought up in the hospitality industry. They looked all over Scotland for a place where they could combine their passion for food and wine and finally found a suitable pub in a pretty conservation village. Despite the dry rot and dodgy floorboards, they realised that this was a place on which they could both stamp their personalities. Five years later they have renovated the dining room, kitchen, lounge and bedrooms. After a good deal of hard work and hammering they have created the warm, welcoming Barley Bree that has put Muthill on the foodie map.

Barley Bree is a family run multi award winning restaurant with rooms nestled in the heart of beautiful Muthill, Perthshire. French food is prepared with the finest local Scottish ingredients with skill and imagination by award wining chef Patron Fabrice Bouteloup. Outdoor seating to enjoy the Scottish sunshine and a cosy cocktail bar with an open fire for the colder months. We've never had a duff dish or less than perfect service here!

25 mins drive. Situated in the small village of Muthill just south of Crieff. A high quality eatery for special occasion meals or a treat. I visited for the first time last year to celebrate a friend's birthday. Menu choices were venison & hake for mains. Fantastic food and service and you can even buy one of their home made breads to take home.
