Our 1/4-mile trail takes visitors to a place where for thousands of years people have left their mark on the hills by pecking over 1,500 symbols – called petroglyphs – into the black basalt boulders. The ASU Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve provides protection for and access to the Hedgpeth Hills…
If you have limited time, this is a good place to see Native American Petroglyphs, please check the website for time and days
This is a hidden gem. The Deer Valley Petroglyph Preserve is an archaeology museum and home to the largest concentration of Native American petroglyphs in the Phoenix area. The 1/2 mile trail has no shade so make sure to avoid the heat of the day and bring a hat, sunscreen and water.

Trail
“Great set of easy to moderate hiking trails directly north, it is about a 15-20 minute drive on the scenic part of the Cave Creek Road on the way to Carefree and Cave Creek. Especially great when wildflowers are blooming in the spring. This set of trails is also commonly used for horse back and mountain biking so keep alert on the trail. There are bathrooms but no drinking water, nice size parking lot.”

“This is the closest Albertsons, approximately 2 miles away, it is a smaller location with less variety than the one located at Desert Ridge Marketplace.”
