The Herisem paper mill and the former Winderickx cardboard factory in Alsemberg together form a 19th-century industrial complex which evolved around an old paper mill. The complex is one of the best preserved examples of the once flourishing paper and cardboard industry in Brabant. Today it is listed as a protected monument and industrial heritage site. The site as a whole consists of the original paper mill, the cardboard factory, the neighbouring farm (with corn mill) and a centrally situated residence with offices. Today the site houses a museum, a tavern, a banqueting hall and conference, seminar and event rooms. The Herisem site is also an excellent venue for school excursions.
