This old railroad bridge suspended over the Hudson River became a state historic park in 2009 and is the longest elevated pedestrian bridge in the world. It connects to the Empire State Trail. You can also do the Walkway Loop which will take you through some neighborhoods and return over the Mid Hudson Bridge (note the Bridge Music Listening Stations!). The loop is approx. 4 miles. Highland is on our side of the River and once you walk over you can go to restaurants along the river on the Poughkeepsie side.
