Make no mistake, the quaint shop exterior is designed to make the whole retail experience a pleasurable one, but in all honesty, I could not get my head round those inflated prices! There is a lot inside to tempt a shopper, and to their credit, most of it looks as if it is sourced locally. There is such a lot of items crammed into a small space - reminding me of those general dealers in the platteland! The ladies behind the till were not at all interested in engaging with customers, and therefore there were few if any purchases made while I was in the store.

The 'Oep vir Koep' shop in Paternoster is a well known landmark in this area. You won't miss it as it sits right on the corner as you enter the town. Here you can buy local delicacies such as fig preserve, snoek, bokkoms, koeksusters (a sweet pastry) and local brands. Stop off for a while, buy the local newspaper "Die Paternoster Koster" and enjoy Tee or Coffee at Oep vir Koep's coffee shop whilst you read the local news.
