With movies, a photography bookshop, vinyl for sale, food, and a bar, this is a great place for a night out and a lovely place to hang out on Sundays—it has that Sunday feel to it. Just turn up and see what’s on. Founded by an architect with amazing vision, most locals are unaware of it, but it does attract a mix of writers, artists, and musicians. Sit at the bar made out of an old plane, then catch an offbeat film in the comfy little cinema. I’ve seen some great short surrealist films by Magritte, rather than the usual Buñuel and Dali L’Age d’Or.

Small independent cinema in railway arch, with great bar behind, also serving food. Cinema seating is either sofas, or aeroplane seats.

This is an amazing cinema, with sofa seats, and showing great relseases. There is also a great bar and restaurant attached, with outdoor seating, perfect for the summer.

The Institute of Light is Hackney’s newest collaborative space under the railway arches of London Fields station. IOL is a cinema, record store, bookshop, cafe, and restaurant/bar. Their menu is based around a fusion of Anglo-French cuisine, and is dependent on seasonal and market produce.

The Institute of Light is a multi-sensory space; a cinema; vinyl record store; film, music and photography bookshop, and social cafe – all under one roof. Cinema showing new films as well as arthouse. Tickets from only £6. Its a great place to grab a coffee in the day too.
