This is the working palace of the King and Queen. It is modest, but beautiful, in the middle of a pretty nice, but expensive, street with boutique shops.
This is our King's palace where he works and hosts dignitaries from other countries.

“Feel the warmth of the peace flame on your back as you admire the most photographed building in The Hague: the Peace Palace. It is the seat of the International Court of Justice, the only judicial organ of the United Nations not located in New York, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. This beautiful Neo-Renaissance style building, which was actually the winning design of an architecture competition in the early nineteen hundreds, and the organisations it houses have given The Hague worldwide recognition as the internationale city of Peace and Justice.”

“Kunstmuseum Den Haag (formerly Gemeentemuseum), designed by Dutch architect Hendrik Berlage is a milestone in contemporary architecture. The museum is most especially known for Mondriaan's work. This collection includes his early, realistic pieces as well as the piece de resistance, Victory Boogie Woogie.”

“Mesdag was an excellent painter. He painted a panorama of scheveningen (the beach) which is housed in a purpose-built museum in The Hague. The panorama is a cylindrical painting (also known as a Cyclorama) more than 14 metres high and about 40 metres in diameter (120 metres in circumference). From an observation gallery in the centre of the room the cylindrical perspective creates the illusion that the viewer is on a high sand dune overlooking the sea, beaches and village of Scheveningen in the late 19th century. A foreground of fake terrain around the viewing gallery hides the base of the painting and makes the illusion more convincing.”

“The Binnenhof is the oldest parlamentary building still used for its original purpose. The Dutch PM works here, in the so-called 'torentje' - little tower, on the corner next to the Mauritshuis. Soon to be closed for a decennia-long restauration. It is truly the centerpoint of Dutch political history. A must see / walk-through. Next to the Binnenhof you will find the Plein - with many cafés and restaurants. In the afternoons and evenings filled with politicians, staff and everybody else connected to national politics. In the small shopping street, Korte Poten 24, you will find the Wiener Konditorei, a tiny place still the same since the 1930's, with the bakery on the first floor. Just to show that lagging behind our times means you'll be the front runner the following wave. Excellent quality. I am donor to the cause by having the Mohnkuche when I'm there - made of poppy-seed. ”
