The castle of Lerici since its first founding in 1152 was used to help control the entrance of the Gulf of La Spezia. Today the castle contains a museum of palaeontology.

Near La Spezia you can find the charming bay of Lerici with its Genoese castle (thirthteenth-sixteenth century) which was an extension of an earlier medieval castle. In the castle you can visit a very old chapel dedicated to Sant'Anastasia (1250). Lerici castle houses also the Museum of Geopalaeontology, which was set after the discovery of prehistoric remains in the area. The Lerici Castle Museum of Geopalaeontology is closed on Monday.

Non consigliamo la visita interna al castello a meno che non siate appassionati di paleontologia e/o castelli medievali, ma la parte sottostante al castello é meravigliosa! Incluse tutte le varie stradine caratteristiche per arrivare in cima.
