Over on East Mersea, a 10 minute drive away, there's Cudmore Grove Country Park, for walking, birdwatching (there's a hide) and more lovely views from the beach. Absolutely lovely!

Restauracja z owocami morza
“Bring your own bread and wine to this seaside shack to tuck into mussels, oysters, prawns, lobster, jellied eels, smoked fish or their signature seafood platter. It's all courtesy of the Howard family, eighth-generation oyster-harvesters. The shed is on Mersea Island, 9 miles south of Colchester. Check the times of high water – it's not accessible on particularly high tides. You can't book; arrive early (by 11.30am in the summer) to be sure of a meal. If you want lobster or crab, call them 24 hours in advance. 129 Coast Rd, West Mersea 01206-382700 Visit website Hours: 9am-4pm Tue-Sat, from 10am Sun Price: mains £6-18”

“As I previously said under Colchester Castle the gardens here are simply stunning! There is so much to see & do. There are the magnificent flower gardens, where as you walk around you will see from the plaques & information boards the gardens celebrate many various events & things. There is the NHS rainbow garden, which celebrates the work of the doctor's, nurses, care staff, cleaners & many more during the Corona virus. There's also the Military gardens which honour the dead from various wars over the years. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten! There are many other flower garden displays that celebrate & honour other events, as too many to name. There's a few special places within the Castle gardens, like the peaceful goldfish pond, then there's the sensory garden with its water sculpture & then there's the wildlife area, which various birds visit as do the smaller animals like the squirrels. There are 100 different types of tree within the Castle grounds, do check out the notice board in the park. You also have the boating lake where you can take a trip around the lake in a swan boat & you can also see the swans & ducks that live on the lake as well. There is also a bowls area, a golf putting game, a cricket area, as well as an exercise area which has all the exercise equipment you could need As for the younger ones there are the play parks, three of them in fact, all together in one area. There are lots of swings, climbing frames, rides etc to keep the youngsters happy for quite sometime! There are also several places that sell food, drink & ice creams as well as bathroom facilities. Not forgetting there is the Roman Wall that goes through Colchester Castle gardens & is as old as the Castle itself. Lastly there is the River Colne that flows through the Castle grounds as well.....”

“Lovely pub in the Dedham vale for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Drive the scenic (longer) route via Bures. Around 30 mins away by car.”

“One of my favourite places to visit. You can go into his studio and see how he painted such wonderful horses and scenery.”
