Directions: Follow the Tasman Highway (A3) to Sorell, 27km out of Hobart, over the Tasman Bridge and out past the Hobart International Airport. Arriving in Sorell, turn right at the traffic lights to find the Arthur Highway (A9). A further 30 kilometres down the road in Dunalley, take a left over the canal. Port Artur was not only the largest penal settlement with 9000 convicts & army personnel, but also the industrial centre of Van Diemen's Land.
