The Virginia War Memorial built in 1955, was originally designed as a World War II and Korean War Memorial for Virginians who had made the ultimate sacrifice in battle. There are public bathrooms on site however the bathrooms are only open when the exhibit is open. This site is FREE-no admission fee! Open 9AM-4PM Monday through Saturday and 12PM-4PM on Sunday. The shrine (beautifully lite at night) is open from 5AM-12AM daily. From this memorial, if your back is to the memorial, you will stand on an amazing hill with the Governor's Mansion to your left and Brown's Island in front of you with a view of the James River as far as the eye can see.

One of the country's most recognized war memorials, this iconic Richmond landmark honors Virginia's fallen soldiers. The sunrises here are so beautiful that local yoga instructor Michelle Landon of One Drop Yoga will host sunrise yoga flows here at 6 am just to watch the sun come up over the James River.

The Virginia War Memorial is heralded by many as the premier state memorial to honor its veterans in the United States. The memorial honors our fallen heroes by passing on their stories of sacrifice.
