For those interested in history, Georgian landscapes and royal connections. The old hall is a ruin but the chapel remains in tact and is a stunning and rare example of its type. The grounds are mainly woodland and include a riverside walk where otters kingfisher and dipper are often seen. Row deer…

Stunning 18th-century landscape garden and haven for nature. A taste of the country on the edge of the city. Discover fine Derwent Valley views, winding paths and refreshing open spaces while exploring our elegant buildings and ruins. Gibside is a Georgian 'grand design' on a spectacular scale. The…

“One of the most complete and excellent Norman Cathedrals you will see in the UK. It is free to enter and contains the remains of St Cuthbert and the Venerable Bede. It was also used to film Hogwarts.”

Meal Takeaway
“Our seafood restaurant in the beautiful village of Tynemouth serves Shetland mussels, grilled lobster, shucked oysters, monkfish & prawn curry, roast turbot as well as classic fish and chips. Our menu changes daily and is designed around what's been caught that day by the local fisherman. As well as the seafood restaurant, we have a takeaway serving fish and chips, tiger prawns & seafood burgers with 'LFK' sauce and much more. We don't use beef dripping in our oil, so our fried food is also suitable for vegetarians. My fav? AMAZING Goan fish curry and traditional French Soupe De Poissons.”

Museum
““Outstanding Volunteer Run Museum” – but don’t take our word for it, this is the verdict of Renaissance North East and the Arts Council for England who have also awarded the museum full accreditation. This small folk museum is packed with fascinating stories from the past including a hands on lead-miner’s kitchen and The Weardale Tapestry, a beautiful 16 foot free-style embroidery depicting Weardale’s history. To commemorate those who served in World War 1 the Museum has assembled a special display to remember ever soldier from Weardale who died with stories, images and artefacts illustrating the lives of many individuals. Visit also the historic and beautiful High House Chapel, the oldest Methodist Chapel to have held continuous weekly services since it was built in 1760, and one of John Wesley’s favourite chapels.”
