The North Pennines was famous for lead mining. There are a number of mines in the area that you can visit. Killhope is well worth a visit. Open April to October and has activities suitable for all ages - museum, art events, drama events, wildlife walks, cafe, and underground tours. You will need war clothes and wellies if you intend to do a tour. Site is dog friendly.
