Guinness has been brewed at St James Gate (Dublin 8) since 17th century. The Guinness Storehouse is the visitor centre for this famous stout. There is an exhibition of the brewing process, the transportation system, bottling and advertising. The Storehouse can only be visited on a tour at the end of which there is a “free” pint of Guinness in the Gravity Bar – an elevated viewing gallery overlooking Dublin city.

Today, the Castle grounds include a 12th century Norman tower, the State Apartments (used for State functions), the Dubhlinn gardens, the Coach House and the Chester Beatty Library. Tours of the State Apartments are held daily.

The ‘Long Room’ of the Old Library is well worth a visit and holds temporary exhibitions. From May to September, official guided walking tours of the college are held.
