My grandparent's built this restaurant in the 60's and at the time was only a drive-in. Beth, the current owner, has extended the space and offers about 12 tables. They are known for their burgers. Note: only open for Lunch and Dinner, and not open at all on Sundays.

Lots of street performers. I have taken my children, and feel safe. The drum circle is electrifying! There is a nice park for a picnic with Live Music. Check internet for dates/times.
There are homeless and beggars, but they are not invasive.

Roan Mountain is home of the world's largest naturally occurring Catawba Rhododendrons. They are in full bloom around the 3rd weekend in June. The town of Bakersville celebrates that weekend with an Arts and Crafts show, Car show, a Beauty Pageant, and we even block the street for an old fashioned square dance! It is THE event in Bakersville!

The town of Bakersville celebrates that weekend with an Arts and Crafts show, Car show, a Beauty Pageant, and we even block the street for an old fashioned square dance! It is THE event in Bakersville!
Highest Peak east of the Mississippi River. It's been a while since I have been there, but I remember that it was an easy hike. Very Windy. Always!

Mitchell County is known as the "Gem Mining Capital of the World" and Gem Mountain will give you the royal treatment. You can pan for gems, and gold, and the sweet ladies will let you know if you found anything worth keeping. I believe they have just recently added a mine tour!

Tubing down the river is great! The water is very calm and If you take the tubes in my garage, it will save you some money! Plan to pack a cooler and lots of sunscreen..... The trip takes about 2.5 hours.
