Watch the tour boats or Chi-Cheemaun from big tub point. A lighthouse, scuba divers and crystal clear waters make this spot another must see in the area. Keep your kids close...the water is DEEP

2020 UPDATE. THE LIGHTHOUSE IS CLOSED INDEFINITELY Admittedly this is a LONG drive down a windy road. It will take you approximately an hour from Wayward Winds but if you like lighthouses its a good spot to spend an afternoon. Hiking trails, a small gift shop and some confections are available on site.

Beaches & Public Swimming

This is THE beach to visit if you have young children. Miles of shallow sandy water mean your kids can play for hours in safety. Also features walking trails, public facilities and picnic areas. It does get busy in summer months so if your going to go...go early! Parking is on a first come first served basis and fills up quickly in summer months. Arrive early to avoid disappointment. There is a fee to park at approximately $12.25 for the day. The beach has new modern facilities, a nature boardwalk and picnic areas so you can plan to make a day of it!

Admittedly Sauble beach is a bit of a drive - at just under 1 hour (70km) this beach is suited more to a day trip but as one (second if Im not mistaken) of the worlds longest freshwater beaches its will worth the time invested to travel there. With approximately 11 kilometres of sandy beach and crystal clear waters Sauble is a perfect spot to spend the day. Offering sit down restaurants, take out, ice cream parlours, shopping and even an arcade & high ropes course there truly is something for everyone in this vibrant beach town. Things to note: Most parking in Sauble Beach is paid parking between June 1 & Labour Day. You can park using the Passport Parking app or website or at the machines along Lakeshore. As of this writing the fees are $7/hour or $30/day.

This wonderful little beach in downtown Lions Head offers spectacular views of the escarpment cliffs. Admittedly it is the smallest beach on this list but with nice sand, wheelchair accessible path, washroom facilities and walking distance to shops, restaurants and a marina we think its worth mentioning. It is also the only Georgian Bay beach on the list - so prepare yourself for colder water temps! Georgian Bay is always colder than Lake Huron with its deep waters and jagged cliffs! Parking is pay per use in all of Lions Head with a 3 hour limit! You can pay using the “Pay & Display” machine located at the north end of the beach parking.

My personal favourite- this Lake Huron beach is a little more secluded but is one of the best beaches around. With warm(ish) shallow water its perfect for kids, swimming & non motorized water sports. The south end is also the only “dog friendly” stretches of beach in the area. Blackcreek offers limited parking so it is best to arrive early. There are picnic tables and facilities but thats about it! If you plan to spend a day be sure yo pack a lunch and lots of water!

Parking

All parking in Tobermory is paid parking . There are kiosks throughout town where you buy a pay and display ticket for your window. It is also 3 hour maximum time limits. Tobermory is also a very busy spot during summer months so if your wanting to spend some time exploring town my advice is the earlier the better. Paid parking is in effect from May-October and is free from November-April.

National Park Parking Requires Reservations!!!

The parks are the areas biggest attractions and as such are not a place to try and see “on a whim”. You will require a reservation to enter the parks. Please refer to our welcome package for all the details you will need on how it works for each site and how to make it happen!

Activity appropriate footwear is a must!

Appropriate footwear is the number 1 item to pack for a successful trip to “The Bruce”! Sturdy hikers for the trails will go along way to keeping your ankles (and the rest of you) from unwanted strain and injury. The Northern Bruce Section of the Bruce Trail is arguably the most difficult (but most break-taking) of the entire trail. There are many steep rocky sections that become damp in rain or humidity and can be tricky to navigate. Pack in a pair of water shoes and a bathing suit for the many glorious swimming spots along the way..but please do not try and traverse the trails in flips!
