This restaurant is only 300 metres from our apartment and is located on the same complex. It is run by Dogan who lives at Safa Koy. The restaurant is a Coffee shop by day and a restaurant by night. The food is a delight and Dogan lays on singers and bands, BBQs and themed food evenings throughout the summer season. Dogan and this restaurant is the life and soul of the village and is a big part of some peoples' holidays.

This restaurant is currently our favourite; it really is very Cypriot. Fiona and myself often go along for dinner and we find that we are the only Brits there. The restaurant hosts local singers and musicians on Friday and Saturday nights. These tend to be the quieter sort of performers to whom you can still eat and converse whilst they entertain you. They do a fantastic mezze and the restaurant is located right on the beach so that you look out over the Med' as you dine. The restaurant used to be called 'Moon over the Water'. So if you time your visit to be a couple of days after full moon then you will be treated to the most magnificent Moon rise.

Everything Else

Bogaz fishing harbour and village is lovely. The harbour is so pretty. To begin with you must have a coffee or a simple lunch from the Belediyesi (council) coffee shop which is located in the most perfect setting right on the harbour wall. The view is just cosmic with the old fishing boats bobbing gently and the view out across the Med'. Bogaz has a number of restaurants and bars all of which offer great food for amazingly reasonable prices. The Kemil in Yeri and the Korfez to name but two. On a more practical level, Bogaz village has the supermarket, garage and cash points. It is a 20 minute walk across the fields to the village or a 5 minute drive.

Sightseeing

Kantara Castle is a fantastic place to visit. The drive up is 'exhilarating' if you take the direct route up the side of the mountain on what must have been a goat track but is now paved. The castle is brilliant for wandering round but not for the faint or weak hearted i would suggest. I think that there may be a cafe inside the castle but I might be mistaken as there are a lot of castles in Cyprus. However, there is a lovely restaurant a mile back along the ridge from the castle in Kantara Village called, unsurprisingly, Kantara Restaurant.

Salamis Ancient City is worth a look. The site is quite extensive with a columned forum, amphitheatre, water cisterns and assorted buildings dating back 2000 years. There's also a marvelous circular mosaic which, although getting progressively damaged year on year, has a really cool spiral design.

You have go to to go into the walled city of Famagusta it is so enchanting. You can walk around the top of the fortress walls, there is an area just inside the main entrance where you can pay a small fee and go inside the walls, you can walk around the moat, you can go up Othello's Tower which is a lookout tower in the harbour-wall and look out over the large ships harbour, you can enter the city's mosque which used to be the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas and visit the Canbulat Museum. There is also a myriad of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants within the fortress walls. The place really is lovely.

A very interesting and moving place to visit is the beach adjacent to the Palm beach Hotel in Famagusta. From this beach it is possible to lok south around the sweeping by and look at the deserted and crumbling town of Varosha. Varosha used to be a vibrant holiday destination back in the late 60s and 70s but in 1974 the conflict the area has remained inside the no-man's land of the Green line which divides the North and South sides of the island. Standing on the beach you can see the crumbling hotels and high-rised apartment blocks. Very eiry and very sad.

Parks & Nature

The Karpaz Peninsula is a fantastic driving day out. It is the Pan Handle of Cyprus and will really take you away from civilisation. On the way North East you will pass the fabulous new, Karpaz Gate Marina, very swanky with Hemingway's restaurant overlooking the yachts. Further along you will pass through the village of Dipkarpaz. This village is really Cypriot and I would recommend a Turkish coffee. Further still North east you enter the Karpaz wilderness, wild donkeys still roam free and the mile long sweep of Golden Beach on the South side of the peninsula needs to be seen from the high, Northern end. Finally, the land runs out and you can stand on the very tip of Cyprus.

Entertainment & Activities

Absolutely beautiful Golf course and club house. Unfortunately, I don't play golf so I couldn't say if this is a good or a bad course but it looks magnificent. Even though the hottest summer the greens are green and well kept and the whole course looks amazing. But our interest is in the Clubhouse bar and restaurant. The outside dining balcony overlooks the course and is just a delight. Everything has just a touch of class and is well worth the few extra Kurus.

Shopping

This is a brand new and excellent shopping Mall. It offers many types of shops, coffee shops and restaurants. On the ground floor they have set up a variety of children's amusements. Crazy golf and water activities but I don't know how permanent these activities may be.

Getting Around

Sur Car Hire (surcarhire.com) have offices all across Northern Cyprus and have an office in Bogaz. They are super reliable and we have been using them for years. They will often leave the car for you at our apartment or will come and collect you from the apartment and take you to collect the car.
