A great example of a colonial city and reminiscent of older European cities for the architecture and city layout. It is heaving with activity and you will find all that you need here. Kandy is also the home of the most sacred relic to the Buddhists which is housed in the Temple of the Tooth which was once part of the Royal Palatial complex.

Digana town is just a 15-20 minute drive from Subashri. Here there are supermarkets, traditional fruit and vegetable vendors, butchers and other shops. The supermarkets do not stock alcohol. But there is a shop that retails beer. A tuk-tuk ride to Digana Town is approximately Rs300.

The rapids at Kitulagala are a call to white water rafters! Even good for the beginners. There is something to be said for whitewater rafting in warm water! Day trips can be organised from Subashri and can be couples with a lovely hike.

Under close supervision of their mahouts you take your elephant for a walk, feed him/her and scrub her down in the river as s/he enjoys her bath! You will get wet as the elephants do like to be playful and spray you with water. As a thank you for helping looking after, s/he will let you get on its back for a fun elephant ride too. No saddles ets will be used!
