Food Scene

James and Nina own and run the Three Hares and the Black Bull Inn . They are amazing - the food is fantastic and all locally sourced. Nina has won many awards for her food and is a master Baker. You may see James out walking his dogs and foraging for food! They won Casual Dining Restaurant in Cumbria Life magazine. Really great coffee and cake, takeaway pastries, sandwiches and gourmet evening meals to re-heat at home. Very well thought out selection of wines and local beers.

At the foot of Cautley Spout, England's highest water fall, this is a temperance inn, or a 'dry' pub. It is a beautiful old building with an interesting history and it does fabulous afternoon teas! Full of interesting old items, it is in some ways a living museum, and on a cold day its coal fire is very welcome.

This is the place to go for fantastic food, great beer and a wonderful beer garden. The beer garden is at the back so not visible from the street, but take a walk around the corner and find a wood-fired pizza oven, barbeque, outside bar and large child friendly beer-garden. Chat to the pigs, watch the chickens scratch around and enjoy the best food in town. The pub has won numerous awards for its fantastic food, locally sourced 'nose to tail' approach to food and innovate menu. Honestly - do not miss out on having a meal here!

It's right next door to our house! Find out more about the textile mill you are staying in and meet some local artists. The gallery changes regularly and there is always something new to see. The shop is a great place to pick up gifts, jewellery and art from the local area.

The highest point in the Howgills, it is a decent walk so you will need to be prepared and it can take all day, but the views are worth it. See our maps and guide books for more information. Smaller and closer fells to aim for are; Winder, Arant Haw, Calders, Crook and Sikkers.
