Nijou-jou castle is worth to visit to imagine the old life of Japanese Emperor(Shogun). The inside of the castle has very stunning painting while the exterior is nice as well. There is very beautiful Zen garden in the castle, so you will be relaxed there. You can walk there from Gion area, so I recommend this place for your Kyoto day trip.
