Established in 1950 in Little Italy in San Diego, Filippi’s Pizza Grottos has grown to 14 casual, family-friendly restaurants that are owned and operated by original family members of the founders from Naples, Italy including this little gem only 3 blocks away from our home. We enjoy the lasagna and the pizza and their lunch specials. Come hungry...the servings are generous, although you can request side order portion sizes of their most common pasta dishes.

Because you can have breakfast 24 hours a day here. Very convenient, nice service. Standard fare, but, it's comforting to have something tried and true at times when you're traveling.

Take advantage of their lunch specials, happy hours, and coupons. This is a big restaurant, good for large groups. They close at 10pm every night except Sunday, when they end at 9pm.
Our home is located about equidistant from 2 Starbucks, both with drive-through. Standard fare, tried and true when you need that caffeine fix. Good for quick breakfast.

San Diego Mexican Food is the best! I've been coming to this original Roberto's location (with drive-thru) for decades! Must tries are carne asada burrito, rolled tacos, and carne asada fries....but everything is pretty good here.

Located conveniently at the Chula Vista Mall, Unisushi will satisfy any sushi cravings you may have. I actually like their hamachi kama, because they cut their own fish, and prepare it the traditional way, broiled. So healthy.

Although this location within the Seven Mile Casino is relatively new, the restaurant is well established in other locations in San Diego. They have a really nice menu...but the best part is their happy hour menu for great eats at a discounted price. Lovely atrium type setting with views of the San Diego Bay National Wildlife Refuge. You don't have to gamble at the casino to eat at the restaurant.

Rubio's started as a little walk-up taco stand in Mission Bay, San Diego in 1983 after Ralph Rubio went on a spring break trip to San Felipe, Mexico, and helped put fish tacos on the map. There are several shops in San Diego, and luckily this one is conveniently located at Chula Vista Shopping Center.

This is a great place to check out if you are interested in the cuisine. The other day I picked up a bag of fresh nopales (prickly pear cactus leaves) to cook up with some eggs. Open 8a-10p daily.

I've been using this laundromat with fluff and fold service for professional washing of all of our sheets and towels. It is very clean and managed by friendly staff. If you don't have time to do your laundry yourself, you can drop off your items in the morning, and most likely, they'll be ready for pick-up in the afternoon. Very convenient if you've got a busy schedule.

This gas station is reasonably priced and conveniently located right next to the E Street exit to the I-5 freeway. AM/PM convenience store onsite makes it easy to grab a bag of ice, drinks and snacks. There's even a car wash if your wheels are looking a little dusty.

Our family is very proud of its ties to the United States Navy.
If you have military privileges, you are not too far from 32nd street Naval Base and large Exchange and Commissary for shopping. It is really cool to see all the big navy ships.

The Living Coast Discovery Center is an environmental education center with marine animal, animal and bird exhibits located in the Sweetwater Marsh Unit of the San Diego National Wildlife Refuge in Chula Vista, California. There are 3 Costco's within 5 miles of our home. The one on Broadway is the closest, located 2.7 miles away if you want cheaper gas, or your pizza or $1.50 hot dog and a drink fix. Note, you must have membership to shop at Costco.

Public Transportation
Our home is a short drive or 15 minute walk to the San Diego Metropolitan System (MTS) Trolley Station, Blue Line, using the shortcut on the west side (right side) of the elementary school. This station has bus service and free parking. The Blue Line serves La Jolla, Downtown San Diego, National City, Chula Vista, and San Ysidro. San Diego Trolley, Inc. The Blue Line is one of four lines in the Trolley system, along with the Green Line, Orange Line, and heritage rail Silver Line.
E Street Transit Center
Our home is a short drive or 15 minute walk to the San Diego Metropolitan System (MTS) Trolley Station, Blue Line, using the shortcut on the west side (right side) of the elementary school.
