This is our favorite place to have the signature taco in Mexico City: the taco al pastor. This is a kebab-like pork taco served with pineapple. Fantastic. El Tizoncito is a well-known taqueria at the heart of Condesa. The place is not fancy but you’ll love it.

Small place close to the apartment. They specialize in tamales, a corn-base cooked dough with diverse fillings. The typical tamal is simply called white or red, but we prefer the oaxaca style of tamales. This is a good place to buy your tamales but have them at home.

If you like bread, you should check the bakery. They have nice croissants and a wide assortment of types of bread. The concha is one their most popular.

This a classic place for breakfast. You can have enchiladas, chilaquiles or different types of eggs. We like Rancheros because they are simple and highlight the sauce. However, its best asset is the nice view of the park.

Don’t be fooled by this humble place with an awful name. You can have a cheap but fantastic Mexican breakfast in here. These are our favorite Ranchero eggs but you should also try the chilaquiles: beware of chile, they are a bit spicy.

Another great place to have breakfast. The restaurant is a nice place where you can have several mexican specialties. You may actually find us there any given Sunday. Lila usually orders the huevos encamisados, but I prefer the unique black chilaquiles.

Barbacoa and carnitas tacos should have a category of their own. If you try to find the best barbacoa in Mexico you will actually witness visceral culture wars. Fortunately, you have one of the very best a couple of block away. Carnitas are remarkable.

We noticed a lot foreigners lately, so it is probably now listed somewhere. It has two caveats. They only open on the weekends and it is cash only, so be prepared.

This one is an authentic jewel. If you want to go to a truly Mexican place, where Mexican families meet on Sundays, and where middle-class families take grandma for her birthday, this is it. We enjoy the tacos de guisado -mole, tinga, and carnitas are our best. But more elaborate plates are also interesting. You’ll find authentic pozole, chicken with mole and, if you are lucky, you should order the seasonal chile en nogada.
