This is a beautiful park with lakes, bridges, and fountains. It is beautifully landscaped and well lit. The amphitheater there frequently hosts festivals and shows and the restaurant (The Edison) offers picnic lunches or al fresco dining. They also have several porch-style swings, a playground, and a Korean War Memorial. No fee to enter the park. Some events at the amphitheater do charge admission. There is a free choreographed water and light show in one of the fountain areas (schedule varies seasonally). This park hosts the "Word of South" music and literature festival each year. There are many free parking spaces near the park, during large events finding a space can be difficult.

Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park
3540 Thomasville RdThis state park offers lake swimming, kayaking, hiking, and is where the high school rowing team hosts their rowing practice. There are wooded areas, a playground, and a sandy beach. The gardens here are famous for their camellias and they host a festival here during the season. The scenery is so beautiful here that it is frequently chosen as a location for weddings and by photographers the need a lovely backdrop. There is a state park admission fee.

Black Dog Coffee is a popular local coffee shop, Barb's Brittles offers both candy and ice cream, and Mickey's offers simple lunches and outdoor dining. On Thursday nights free live music is provided and a group of food trucks offer their menus for purchase and to picnic on site.

Locally owned delicious, restaurant with focus on fresh local ingredients and a menu that includes French, Italian, and Southern cuisine. Jessica's favorite restaurant in town. We recommend their smoked pork chop, frito misto, and steaks.
