The Roadhouse has killer food...Shrimp and Grits is my favorite...and they are known for having free music in the evenings too. Situated right in downtown Pittsboro, try to come down to Pittsboro a little early and enjoy browsing the antique, clothing and other shops before going to the Roadhouse for dinner.

I like the Market Street Coffeehouse as a meeting place or a place to work away from home because they have great coffee, solid internet and its quiet.

Vimala's has the best Indian Food within 50 miles. Very reasonably priced, great patio or indoor seating, and they often have music. I'm a huge fan of the tandoori chicken.

Acme Food & Beverage Company has been serving damn good Southern American cuisine, signature cocktails, fine wines, and craft beers in the heart of historic downtown Carrboro. Chef/Owner Kevin Callaghan draws inspiration from the seasonal rhythms and flavors of his childhood and uses fresh local ingredients to create Southern American dishes in a fine dining setting. The menu changes frequently and many of the ingredients are sourced from local farms. I recommend calling ahead and making reservations!

They have a great little cafe where you can get amazing food, with both in door and outdoor seating. Hillsborough is another very cool historic town and Mystery Brewing is a great brew house! If you happen to be here on the last Friday of the month, consider heading up to Hillsborough for their monthly free live music and craft fair event, which gets started around 6:00 pm or so and is held the last Friday of every month in the late spring through the early fall. Be sure to check out the Wooden Nickle, Hillsborough's local pub!

Head on over to Vista Point for a great 3 mile hike with easy rolling hills, breath-taking views of the lake, and solitude...its rare to find anyone on the trail with you. To find the trail head, enter Vista Point and drive past the group camping sights and look for the day picnic shelter on your left, just before you get to the large parking area and boat ramp. Park next to the shelter, and look for the trail head that starts to the left of the shelter (when facing the shelter from the parking lot). The park is closed at dark and is often shut down during the winter months. There MAY be a 4 or 5 dollar entrance fee...all depends on whether someone is manning the entrance booth.

This is fun place to go (free!) to see beautiful gardens and flora native to NC. Walk the trails, see amazing sculptures and check out the gift shop too!
