Powerful symbols of the Monarchy The Crown Jewels, part of the Royal Collection, are the most powerful symbols of the British Monarchy and hold deep religious and cultural significance in our nation’s history. The mystique and beauty of the diamonds and precious jewels in the royal regalia have always held an unparalleled allure to visitors from across the globe. You'll find the Crown Jewels under armed guard in the Jewel House at the Tower of London. These gems are a unique working collection of royal regalia and are still regularly used by The Queen for important national ceremonies, such as the State Opening of Parliament. Make sure to look out for the ‘in use' signs.

Shakespeare's Globe is the complex housing a reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, an Elizabethan playhouse associated with William Shakespeare, in the London Borough of Southwark, on the south bank of the River Thames. The original theatre was built in 1599, destroyed by fire in 1613, rebuilt in 1614, and then demolished in 1644. The modern Globe Theatre reconstruction is an academic approximation based on available evidence of the 1599 and 1614 buildings. It is considered quite realistic, though contemporary safety requirements mean that it accommodates only 1400 spectators compared to the original theatre’s 3000.

You're in the heart of London's shopping neighbourhood. This intersection also marks a sort of class divide among London shoppers. (A couple of blocks to the north is the mid-range shopping area Oxford St, which is lined with less-distinguished chains and department stores and seems scruffier than Regent Street) Regent Street with London's high-class, top-dollar shopping outlets. This street has wide sidewalks, fine architecture and royal-family connections. Most of the shops call the Queen their landlord, as she owns most of the land here.

15 Miles up the Thames from downtown, the 500 year old palace of Henry VIII . Actually it was originally the palace of his minister Cardinal Wolsey. When Wolsey a clever man, realised Henry VIII was experiencing a little palace envy, he gave the mansion to his king. The Tudor Palace was also home to Elizabeth I and Charles I. Sections were updated by Christopher Wren for William and Mary. The stately palace over looks the thames and includes some fine Tudor rooms, including a Great Hall with a magnificent hammer-beam ceiling. The train takes around 2.5 hours from London Waterloo.

Not everyone's favourite, but if you would like to try Pie and mash it is a traditional London working-class food, originating in London. Pie, mash and eel shops have been in London since the 19th century M.Manze was established in 1902 by Michele Manze - the present owners' Grandfather. They serve traditional Pie and Mash and Eels (jellied or stewed), in authentic surroundings. At Manzes, we still use the same recipes today for the pies and liquor as were used in 1902, the only changes made have been to improve quality and to meet the higher food standards of today.

Eating in Italy is an experience. It’s a social event not to be rushed; restaurant owners sit, chat, eat and drink with their customers, while families and friends laugh and talk over lovingly prepared dishes. At Emilia’s our pasta recipes are created and cooked in front of you, combining the warmth and welcome of an Italian kitchen with the theatre and passion behind our pasta. Fresh and seasonal ingredients complement the different shapes of pasta that are kneaded, rolled and crafted with the same spirit Simone’s grandmother had sixty years ago.

Nestled between the elegance of Mayfair and the creativity of Soho, the Oscar Wilde Lounge is the space where great minds came together to change the world. It is in this very room that Oscar Wilde fell in love with Lord Alfred Douglas, Aubrey Beardsley debated with Whistler, David Bowie retired Ziggy Stardust and Mick Jagger, the Beatles and Elizabeth Taylor danced the night away. Dating back to 1865 and formerly known as the Grill Room, the gilded room was renamed in honour of our most famous patron becoming the Oscar Wilde Lounge. Today, this dramatic setting is home to Hotel Café Royal's award-winning afternoon tea service.
