Great selection of southern classics. Won't break the bank and is a laid back atmosphere. If it's nice, you can sit outside too.

For me, the best bbq in town. If you're up for a feast try "Big Boy's Platter". The smoked wings are pretty great and the pineapple casserole is a thing too.

Not your cookie cutter pizza place. Always has a nice selection of specialty pizzas and great side dishes. Outdoor seating is great. This is also a nice jumping off point to various RAD attractions including the Grey Eagle.

One of the best restaurants in town. Great if you enjoy Spanish style tapas. The Chef has worked with some of the big names including Ferran Adrià and Jose Andres. Lots of great options on the menu (pulpo, jamon, croquettes), but for something a little off kilter for dessert...try the fried eggplant and request a scoop of rosemary ice cream. Not on the menu and you'll probably get a funny look, but its worth it.

The view is priceless, the hike is fairly easy, and you can complete the whole trip in a morning.
Just a few minutes from our home, this is a great place for a leisurely evening stroll. We frequently walk our dog here, and it also makes a nice walk on the way to Luella's.

This is a really stunning view. The hike is about 6 miles total (don't quote me) and is moderately challenging. The payoff is unquestionable.

This is for the road cyclists. The descent down Elk Mountain is one of my favorites. From our house, take Sunset Mountain to Town Mountain to the Blue Ridge Parkway down Elk Mountain to Kimberly and home. Its a 25 mile ride w/ about 2,500 in elevation. The descent is about 6 miles and feels endless. Be careful, its curvy and steep. If you want more info, glad to discuss or try Strava.

You like the circus and you like beer. These guys are good friends of ours and do a really nice job. The Hilliard location is cozy, but you can also check out the Big Top in Biltmore. This is one of the few breweries in town that makes a proper lager...I know, lager sounds not great to you b/c of the macro lagers you are used to...but technically, a lager is a very challenging beer. Just try it. That, and the Strongman Coffee Stout.

This is one of the few breweries in town that makes a proper lager...I know, lager sounds not great to you b/c of the macro lagers you are used to...but technically, a lager is a very challenging beer. Just try it. That, and the Strongman Coffee Stout.
This is the core of the AVL music scene. Lots of great bands come through AVL on their way to DC, Raleigh, etc. Check out the back bar (you'll need a membership). This is also a rehabbed nightclub from the 60s which adds a little flare.
