Parks & Nature
This is probably our favourite, starting few hundred meters down the house and offering a relaxing walk overlooking the sea. Leaving halfway on the way going down from Santa Croce to the costal road, it reaches the village of Aurisina delighting tourists and locals with countless corners to be framed and remembered. Insider tip: in the middle of the trail you will see a steep climb. Follow that until you reach the woods. On your right you will find the ‘Liburnia Tower’, usually open to the public and safe to climb to gain incomparable views. From the tower you can either go back to the Sage Trail or keep your right to return to Santa Croce village through the woods.

Sentiero Tiziana Weiss (o sentiero della salvia)
Località Aurisina Santa CroceThis is probably our favourite, starting few hundred meters down the house and offering a relaxing walk overlooking the sea. Leaving halfway on the way going down from Santa Croce to the costal road, it reaches the village of Aurisina delighting tourists and locals with countless corners to be framed and remembered. Insider tip: in the middle of the trail you will see a steep climb. Follow that until you reach the woods. On your right you will find the ‘Liburnia Tower’, usually open to the public and safe to climb to gain incomparable views. From the tower you can either go back to the Sage Trail or keep your right to return to Santa Croce village through the woods.

The walk is extremely pleasant, relaxing and a great after-beach option, with a lot of hidden corners and spots to take pictures of the bay and the castle. There’s also a small bar in the middle of the trail where you can have a drink or a snack. Arrived at Duino, you can either keep going down to Duino bay or return to Sistiana on the same trail or taking the bus n.44 (check timings).

Probably the most famous trail overlooking the sea in the whole region, this path links the terrace right above Sistiana bay to Duino village and castle. Going from Borgo S. Nazario to Opicina (Obelisco), this walking way is wide, even and well maintained. You can also travel the opposite way - from Opicina to Borgo S. Nazario - and it is a great occasion to visit the nearby Sanctuary of Monte Grisa
(that huge concrete building at the top of the hill).
That’s the closest beach at just 5 mins drive from the house, also reachable by walk (around 30mins way down, 1 hr way back) and where we are usually going with friends and family. The beach is nice, never too crowded, there’s a small port and a fish restaurant & bar right on the seafront. Only issue here is car parking, try to go early morning or be prepared to leave the car up the main coastal road.

Follow ‘Marina di Aurisina’ and ‘Canovella degli Zoppoli’ from the main coastal road, then take the steps down to the beach. Bepples there are pretty big so a sunbed is recommended. There’s also a tiny shed serving fish and cold drinks.

Probably the one with the most clear and beautiful water among the free beaches of the area. Follow ‘Marina di Aurisina’ and ‘Canovella degli Zoppoli’ from the main coastal road, then take the steps down to the beach. Bepples there are pretty big so a sunbed is recommended. There’s also a tiny shed serving fish and cold drinks.
If you’re looking for something a little bit more exclusive, this private beach is the one to go for. It’s hidden from anything else, quiet and with clear blue waters. You can hire a sunbed there too and there’s a bar, toilet, shower and everything you need to feel comfortable, but you’ll pay for entry and parking.

If you’re looking for something a little bit more exclusive, this private beach is the one to go for. It’s hidden from anything else, quiet and with clear blue waters. You can hire a sunbed there too and there’s a bar, toilet, shower and everything you need to feel comfortable, but you’ll pay for entry and parking.
This is ‘THE’ beach of Trieste, even though it’s not properly a beach, but more a very long concrete pathway where people are laying down on the seaside. Usually crowded during weekends, it has a lot of bars right on the sea. The most lively part of Barcola is ‘pineta’, where there’s trees and two bars hidden in the woods, perfect for a walk
and a spritz at sunset.

Usually crowded during weekends, it has a lot of bars right on the sea. The most lively part of Barcola is ‘pineta’, where there’s trees and two bars hidden in the woods, perfect for a walk
and a spritz at sunset.

In the middle between Ibiza and Miami, it’s a bit posh and probably not worth the cost as service could be better. However it’s for sure fascinating if you’re looking for a luxury experience.

On the other side of the bay you’ll find Caravella beach, placed within a private property but with free access. You’ll only pay to enter with the car. It’s very nice and with a good mix of shades and direct sun, however that’s usually attended by teenagers and a young crowd in general.
