You can actually swim with penguins on Boulders Beach, a beach which has been voted by a Canadian Tourist Survey as being 40th of 100 beast beaches in the world, for its pristine water quality, and wild life management, the only beach in South Africa to attain this recognition.

I have seen this and although the trip cost R450 for 1.5 hours it is great fun.
Between June and November take a boat out to sea to see Southern Right and Humpaback whales closeup. Unforgettable experience

A lovely farm just before the turn off to Cape Point Nature reserve has a low key tea garden and tour of ostrich breeding. Watching the huge ostrich eggs hatch and the baby chicks grow is a unique sight.

Not too strenuous and the boats are stable, so no fear of capsizing. A very memorable way to see penguins. I also saw a huge fin which was not a shark but a Sun Fish on this trip.

Getting Around
Simon's Town can be reached by train and is the last station from Cape Town, over one hour trip. It is cheap but not used much by tourists as security has been an issue. However it is ideal for budget travellers. It is not very reliable at weekends and sometimes service is suspended due to sand dune build up on the rails. Fish Hoek is more reliable but is 15 minutes from Simon's Town, so budget travellers will need to take a local bus or taxi from Fish Hoek to Simon's Town. Visitors to Phoenix Rising are advised to hire their own car as we are over a kilometer from Simon's Town at the top of a steep road.
