Swim and Relax

Xlendi is very close to our house; just a few minutes down the road (by car). It's a great place to swim and snorkel with a small, safe beach area for children and deeper water options for confident swimmers. Restaurants are plentiful with lots of choice re price.

Sun cream and insect spray

In the height of summer from June to September the sun is very hot, and you will definitely need sunscreen if you are on the beach or out and about. There are often mosquitoes so it's advisable to have some spray. Comfortable shoes are a good idea if you plan on walking a lot and the roads and pavements can be uneven. Tracks may be rocky or steep. Shops here sell most things you may need, and the chemists have helpful staff.

Cover up if visiting a church.

Malta and Gozo are catholic so please respect this by covering shoulders before entering the many churches on the island. There are also many feasts throughout summer where processions can be seen. Statues of saints are carried through the villages (each village has their own saint) brass bands play, and fireworks are set off to celebrate in style. Festas are fun, exciting occasions. A 'must see' if you are here in the summer.
