This is our favorite distillery in Denver. If you are a gin lover, they have multiple original gins, all better than the last (vodka, whiskey, and liquors too!). We like to start here for a cocktail then wander down Larimer Street to visit the Larimer breweries such as Odell's, Recess, and 10 Barrel Brewing. Depending on how long you've been drinking and how desperately hungry you are, either keep it classy at Barcelona for great Spanish tapas, or just make a stop at Shake Shack and get the job done quickly!

They frequently host live music (if you're a bluegrass fan, this is your spot!) and feature some beers from other local breweries. This is a great spot to stop of you head up to the mountains as it is right off of I-70.

Linger (the restaurant) was actually converted from an old mortuary (O'Linger). Incredible vibes and great views from their funky and fun rooftop. Get the bao buns! And you should probably make a stop at Little Man ice cream (right next door) when you're done with dinner.

Now, we all know pizza opinions are polarizing, and us hosts are from the great pizza town of Chicago. Therefore, take our pizza recommendations with a grain of salt if you aren't thick crust people.
That being said, we think Blue Pan, serving up Detroit style square pan pizza, is as good as it gets here. They do have New York style thin crust too for "those people," but their pan pizza is award winning!

This home serves as an excellent base to start all of your Colorado adventures from. It's on the west side of the metro area, minutes from the foothills, mountains, and all of the fantastic activities that go with playing outside in the front range.
Hiking and mountain biking and 15 minutes away. Gorgeous views. There is also some climbing up on North Table (a few sport and a few trad routes). It's pretty chossy, but the climbing isn't as busy as places like Clear Creek Canyon or Boulder Canyon. Make sure to stop for a brew at New Terrain after! Classic place for us Front-Rangers.

If you climb in CCC, there are a lot of guidebooks available at local outdoor shops and the routes are also very well described on Mountain Project.

If you climb in CCC, there are a lot of guidebooks available at local outdoor shops and the routes are also very well described on Mountain Project.
Prepare for gorgeous views, stunning canyon walls, and great hikes. Not to mention, Eldo is THE spot for hard trad climbing in the Denver metro area. Many of the best climbers in the world frequent Eldo to train -- if you're into trad climbing there's a good chance you'll run into a climber you know about here. Heads up, it's a State Park so there will be parking fees, usually about $10 -- and the place fills up fast on weekends so get there early!

Heads up, it's a State Park so there will be parking fees, usually about $10 -- and the place fills up fast on weekends so get there early!
Park at the east trailhead (lower lot) if you want a serious challenge for a hike or MTB ride -- parking down here allows you the experience to gain Belcher Hill (3.5+ miles straight up with 1,700+ feet of elevation gain).

Avoid afternoons in the spring/summer -- thunderstorms roll out with extreme regularity every day around noon and you DO NOT want to be caught in the high alpine in a thunderstorm.
There are options for hiking paths, as well, if you want to challenge yourself.
Cyclists can also take the road up from Idaho Springs -- which makes for a crazy world-tour level hill climb. Or, you can take the abridged version of the hill climb and start spinning at Echo Lake, which still gets you a 13 mile climb with ~2,500 feet of gain.

Head to downtown Golden (Washington Avenue) to stroll several blocks worth of shops with fun gifts, restaurants, cafes, bars and a couple of extra breweries too. There are also numerous parks and open space areas, trails along Clear Creek, and in general it's a great place to spend some time and explore.
The world famous amphitheater is a bucket list venue for anyone who loves seeing live music. It's such an awesome experience to see a show here, but what a lot of people don't know is that it is an open space and City of Denver Park too. There are a good amount of hiking trails and even some mountain biking opportunities in there as well. Don't climb on the rocks, though, or you'll end up with a hefty fine!
Even on event days, the amphitheater itself is open to the public until about 2pm. This means you can park and stroll up to the amphitheater to experience the views and get some sweet photos or you can do a workout and run up and down the seats or the stairs (or do group yoga). It's a great spot to kill some time and check an iconic location off the list.
Close by is downtown Morrison, which is a cute little historic district with some shops, restaurants, and bars.

There are a good amount of hiking trails and even some mountain biking opportunities in there as well. Don't climb on the rocks, though, or you'll end up with a hefty fine!
Even on event days, the amphitheater itself is open to the public until about 2pm. This means you can park and stroll up to the amphitheater to experience the views and get some sweet photos or you can do a workout and run up and down the seats or the stairs (or do group yoga). It's a great spot to kill some time and check an iconic location off the list.
Close by is downtown Morrison, which is a cute little historic district with some shops, restaurants, and bars.
If you're a dinosaur nerd or have some kiddos in tow, take a trip over to Dinosaur Ridge to see plenty of fossilized dino footprints. You can pay for guided tours or park at the bottom for a free walk up the hill to where a prehistoric riverbed was frozen in time, covered, and eventually pushed back up to reveal tons of dinosaur footprints. There's also a spot on the backside of the ridge where you can see the base of a brontosaurus footprint and not too far from that is a newly discovered claw print from a velociraptor (!!) -- which is apparently crazy rare in the paleontology world.

This is a very walkable, upscale neighborhood right across the river and I-25 from downtown Denver. Tons of great restaurants (like Linger and Little Man Ice Cream), bars, breweries, food halls... you name it!

You'll notice that locals really love their abbreviations of neighborhood names here -- RiNo, LoDo, Cap Hill, Wash Park, etc. Don't know why we do it, but we do!
RiNo is a great area to bar/brewery crawl up and down Larimer Street. Lots of great restaurants and food options in this hood as well.

Skiing and Snowboarding
This is a small selection of our favorite ski resorts -- there are a lot more to be found in Colorado and if you have questions about any of them just ask us! The resorts listed here are all within an hour and a half drive from the house (without traffic -- ski traffic on I-70 can get tricky in the winter, but it's all about timing).

Eldora
2861 Eldora Ski RdThis is the closest ski mountain to our house (~60 minutes) and it is on the Ikon pass. Parking fills up fast, as it is fairly limited as ski areas go. This is a smaller resort, overall, but still has plenty of lifts and challenging terrain -- fun for families!
A true locals ski area that is a bit of an unknown gem -- most folks fly right past Loveland on I-70 and head to Summit County for the bigger resorts. Don't sleep on Loveland though, there's tons of above tree line open bowls to pick from and a great overall variety of terrain. Good for beginners, good for salty old corn doggers and everyone in between.

A true independent resort through and through, the good folks who own and operate this place stick their tongues out at Vail resorts and allow Ikon pass holders to ski here every once in a while (I kid, the Ikon Pass gives you 5 free days of skiing at A-Basin).
This is not the place to come if you're a first time skier or snowboarder -- the two or three green runs on the front side would be rated as blue runs at any other resort in the state (and some of the blue runs here would easily rank as black diamonds at other resorts). You come to A-Basin ready to get on the steeps. The Pallavicini chairlift happens to be the Center of the Universe and it takes you to some spectacular -- and challenging -- terrain right out of the parking lot. That's not something that's featured at most ski resorts in this state. The legendary East Wall usually doesn't get filled in enough to be skied until January or February, but features some of the highest and steepest skiing in Colorado. Sharks abound though, so be careful!

The blue cruisers on the front side will let you carve at high speeds until your quads turn into solid bricks from cramping -- and then you'll still have half the run left to finish. There's a 3.5 mile long green run called Schoolmarm that is truly awesome for beginners learning the joys of sliding around on snow.
The middle and back peaks feature more challenging terrain and there are also some open bowls that can be hiked to (read: powder stashes). The back peak (The Outback) has several excellent black diamond tree runs to keep you entertained for a while. We really enjoy Keystone, even if it is on the Epic Pass (i.e. owned by Vail).
