札幌市中央卸売市場には、北海道の各地の野菜・果物や水揚げされたばかりの魚介が毎朝届きます。一般の方が入れず、卸業者だけが入れる札幌市中央卸売市場のすぐ隣にある、一般市民のために開かれたのが、札幌場外市場です。
鮮魚店をはじめ青果店や乾物店などが約60店舗が連なり、朝6時から鮮度抜群の厳選食材が並んでいます。さらに市場の食材を活かした寿司屋や定食屋などの飲食店も数多くあり、手ごろな価格で旬の味覚を堪能できます。

這邊有需多店家，從賣魚貨至水果、魚乾等共約有60家店舗，從早上6點開始營業，這邊賣的盡是新鮮且嚴選過的食材。而且這邊也有以新鮮食材料理的餐廳，例如壽司店和定食餐廳等等，都可用較便宜的價格吃到當季食材料理。
