LaGuardia Landing Lights park’s surround this apartment. While still being in New York City, enjoy the serene yet exciting local nature. Here, I love picnicking, playing with my dogs, and watching planes land. In the wintertime, some of these parks decorate their trees with festive lights. Take a short 30-second to 5 minute walk to these parks to watch planes land up close.

Flushing Meadows Park is the perfect spot for everyone. Whether you’re a museum fanatic, nature lover, or Disney fan, Flushing has it all. For those interested in New York history, visit the Queens museum where you can find a 3D scaled to size map of all of New York. For the outdoorsy people, escape from the hustle and bustle of typical New York while still being in the city! Experience the Unisphere, a long-standing art piece, which is surrounded by a water structure and cherry blossoms. Fun fact: the Unisphere was featured in Iron Man 2, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Tomorrowland, and is one of the only tenants of the 1964 World Fair which featured Disney rides. The local area offers authentic food from all over the world. To get here, hop on the local Q33 bus and then the 7 train or take a 9 minute drive.

After your visit to the museum, enjoy a movie at the local Kaufman Studios, a bite from Starbucks, Panera, or Applebees, or stroll down Steinway Street for authentic Middle-Eastern food. This one speaks for itself. Whether you want to experience nature, watch otters and geese float down the East River, take a dip in the park pool, skate at skate park, run around a track, or simply see Manhattan from across the river, Astoria Park has it all. I love hosting arts and crafts picnics here with my friends or even by myself. Pro-tip: walk on the path along the water and you’ll find an opening to sit right on the rocks and water (do this at your own risk!). Walk outside the park to experience authentic restaurants and New York natives. In the summer, you can always find locals playing a volleyball at one of the nearby courts or people and dogs bonding at the dog park under the Triboro bridge. To get here, hop on the local Q69 bus or take a 5 minute car ride.

Food scene

This place is a New York City hidden gem. By far my favorite (and the best) bakery in all of New York. This authentic French bakery is only found in Queens and is led by an impressive crew. The almond croissants and chocolate mousse cakes are next level. The best part about this place is the location. After enjoying some desserts, stop by Bistro Eloise next door (an authentic French restaurant) for a meal or venture around the nearby open fields. To get here it’s a short 10 minute walk.

You haven’t been to New York if you haven’t been to Martha’s. This bakery is a New York City staple. Enjoy any of their plentiful dessert and drink options (the Hazelnut cake and Chocolate layer cake are heavenly). After some good eats, walk down Ditmars to find floral shops, thrift stores, small businesses, Astoria Park (which is only a 15 minute walk away from this restaurant). To get here, take a 30-minute stroll through the neighborhood, hop on the nearby Q69 bus, or take a 5 minute car ride.

Local Kitchen is one of my favorite spots to grab a quick bite from. Not only is their food delicious and reasonably priced but their values are where they really stand out. They support local family farms committed to sustainable, organic practices. All their food is fresh, vibrant, and made of clean ingredients. In their words, this all makes for good food, and good food enjoyed in a fun and happy space can make your corner of the world just that much better. I recommend anything from here but especially the lemon herb chicken wrap, the chicken parmesan sandwich, and the margherita pizza, and the seasoned potato fries.
