The Village of Madoc is a great place to visit with everything you need when you vacation in the Centre Hastings area from baked goods, groceries, parkland to good eats, hiking, camping, and fishing. Also there's a number of local organic farmers to get amazing produce.
Madoc was originally named MacKenzie's Mills after Donald MacKenzie, who built a sawmill and grist mill here. It was briefly named Hastings but renamed Madoc Township after the legendary Welsh prince Madoc ap Owain Gwynedd, credited by some with discovering North America in 1170. When people traveled by horse and carriage during the 19th century from Toronto to Ottawa, Madoc was the halfway stop over, allowing the passengers and horses to rest. The community separated from the namesake township and remained an incorporated municipality until 1998.

We went there for a Maple Syrup Festival and an all day pancake breakfast. It was awesome even if we did get a bit soaked. Bring an umbrella. :0)

It's always good to know where the nearest hospital is just in case you need one. Heaven forbid you do but still you should know where to go. I always call ahead to see whether Emergency is supper busy or not. That way I can choose which one, Belleville or Cambellford. Belleville is a good bet. (FYI -Cambelleford not bad either).

I really like going to John and Mary Lee's farm. We've eaten their organic eggs and chicken. Always worth a call to see if she has anything fresh or in the freezer. Our trip to vist Henry the bull was pretty spectacular for our two grandchildren.
