Asheville is known for our amazing selection of restaurants. We hope you make it downtown to explore during your stay, but if you’re looking for an option closer to The Perch, one of our favorite spots is Luella’s, less than a 10 minute drive away. They have great house made sauces and sides.

Curate is one of the most famous Asheville restaurants and is amazing (if you can get a reservation), but the lesser known Zambra is also an excellent choice for tapas. The restaurant feels a little hidden on a side street and has a romantic atmosphere, great for a special occasion dinner.

If you’re feeling like a night in with some takeout, only 5 minutes away from The Perch is one of our favorite spots, Siam Thai. Their pad thai and curries are great and generously portioned, and the fresh roll appetizer is truly a treat.

If you’re here on a Sunday, Haywood Common is our favorite place to brunch. Try the chicken and waffles with a kimchi bloody mary! The lunch and dinner menu throughout the week is also great, and the casual counter service and indoor/outdoor seating options are a plus. You can even get a specialty craft beer from The Whale to enjoy with your meal - they share a patio.

Asheville has more breweries per capita than any other city in the U.S. If you’re a craft beer lover you may already have a lineup planned, but if you want to see where it all started Highland is Asheville’s oldest brewery. Their large wooded campus houses their production facility, multiple bars, and in warmer weather lots of outdoor areas to enjoy. Check their facebook page before you go to see what food trucks are available on the day of your visit.

There are countless hiking opportunities around Asheville (we recommend the AllTrails app if you’re looking for a good one!), but if you want to get in touch with nature on a shorter time frame, visit the Blue Ridge Audubon Society’s Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary. About a 5 minute drive from The Perch, you’ll be sure to enjoy the short loop trail featuring boardwalks and a diversity of habitat types supporting a great diversity of native birds. The sanctuary is free to visit, but if you can drop a few dollars in the donation box at the entrance to support ongoing improvements and maintenance.

Asheville has a wide variety of shopping experiences available, but in our opinion this is one of the most interesting places to browse. Literally an old tobacco barn, the giant warehouse space is home to dozens of vendors with all kinds of unique art, vintage items, and antiques. You’ll be sure to find a one-of-a-kind souvenir to remember your trip.
