Hiking Trails

Oeste Vista Trail
We enjoyed hiking this trail with the kids (age 17, 8, and 4). It wasn’t hard for them but it did take awhile to get there so be sure to pack plenty of water. There’s an option to take the short or loop. We went with the short loop.

Our cabin faces the Cougar Trail so we have easy access to it. You can either start this trail off the road or at Monte Verde Lake. Parking lot at either start/endpoint. Not many views, but a lot of rolling hills that make this a great trail for biking or trail running!

Sightseeing - The Enchanted Circle

The Enchanted Circle is an area in northern New Mexico that includes Taos, Questa, Red River, Eagle Nest and Angel Fire. A great day trip! Here are a few of the places we drove past.
This lake offers camping, trout fishing, and more. We haven’t fished here yet, only stopped by with the kids to witness the beautiful view, worth it! Not that far from Angel Fire Village either.

The Vietnam Veteran memorial is in a beautiful setting. It was started by a father from Albuquerque who lost a son in Vietnam. Lots of information and bios of those who were lost in the war.

The drive to Red River is really pretty. It’s around a 35 minute drive from Angel Fire. That’s where we usually go for lunch whenever we’re in town. Be sure to check out Red River Brewing Company & Distillery. We ate there twice, we enjoyed the beer and food.

Places to eat

This is our favorite restaurant. We never had Peruvian food before until we ate at Mikuna and have been coming back since! Highly recommend the Elk Tenderloin and Ají de gallina (a classic Peruvian dish, with shredded chicken wrapped in a smooth, creamy sauce).
