Bear Mountain state park is a 30-minute drive away from the house but it's definitely worth it if you're outdoorsy. Known for its AMAZING views and hiking trails, you can spend an entire day (or two) at this destination. Cellular service may be a little problematic while you're on the trails so make sure to download the ALLTRAILS app on your smartphone before venturing out. If you forget, no worries. The hikers are friendly and always willing to help.

You can literally walk to the fairgrounds from the house. This may. be especially useful as parking for events there is not always free. If you stay during the month of July, be sure to check out the Orange County Fair. This may be an awesome idea, especially if you have younger kids with you.

The Catskill Mountains are located in the Southeast part of New York State, between Albany and New York City. The region is a mixture of public and private land that lies within 700,000 acres of Catskill Park. In addition to breathtaking natural attractions like waterfalls and scenic vistas, the Catskill Mountains are also famous for its numbers of maintained hiking trails, ski resorts, and rivers for visitors to enjoy.
I've only taken this trip (it's about an hour away) in the winter. It was BEAUTIFUL (for lack of a better word) and extremely peaceful.
After a busy day at Legoland, take the family on a nice hike in the Catskills. You can also do this at Bear Mountain, which is closer.

The lines move quickly though.

The weekend can be hectic though since everyone goes there to shop (some traveling all the way from New York City). Be prepared to stand in line if you want to go to Nike or other popular stores. The lines move quickly though.

LEGOLAND® New York Resort
1 Legoland Blvd5-star rating from my 8-year-old nephew and 7-year-old niece! They loved this place. If I was being completely honest, so did I! Even though it's only 17 minutes away from the house, make sure to give yourself time for parking. You can pre-pay parking online (recommended).
This quaint, historical park is a great weekend destination for families during the summer. There is always a food festival or wine festival going on. There is also a great trail for runners adjacent to the park if you want to go for a run with a scenic view.

The Castle Fun Center is 20 minutes away from the house and has no admission or parking fee. However, you do pay-per-attraction. Attractions range from $4 - $15. My family is super competitive so we spent most of our time Go-Kart racing. There is Go-Kart racing, laser tag, and even a Zip Line. Check out the website for the full list of attractions.

If you've never had Angry Orchard, you're missing out. Absolutely delicious hard cider. This cozy destination would be great for an evening outing with both indoor and outdoor seating.

City Winery is one of the many wineries in the area. It is located in the beautiful village of Montgomery and has occasional live music and amazing food. Go prepared by making a reservation on the website as this venue is packed during the summer months.
