Food scene

Just 10 minutes from us, Cygnet may be small, but it offers a lot! Two pubs offering counter meals, cafes for delicious coffee, cakes and meals, and specialty grocery stores that stock vegan options and fresh local produce. Local tip - buy yourself a bag of locally grown apples from May’s stand (opposite the BP fuel station), $3 (cash only in the honesty box) for 2kg of the best apples you’ll ever eat! Cygnet also has a chemist and plenty of artisan stores to help you find that perfect special something. For those visiting with kids, check out the skate park and playground. On Thursdays (10am-2pm), the local Country Women’s Association (CWA) has its makers and bakers stall in the cottage at the Cygnet skate park. Buy some jam just like Nanna used to make, delicious cakes and biscuits. The Cygnet markets are held on the first and third Sunday of each month - food stalls, local growers, crafts, plants and a wonderful community feeling!

Sightseeing

Mt Wellington/kunanyi is a must when visiting Hobart and the surrounding region. With Hobart just at its base, Mt Wellington is visible from miles around, towering in the sky. Often dusted with snow on its peak, the views from the top provide an almost complete panoramic view of southern Tasmania. Easily accessible by road with parking at the top (however when it’s especially icy and snowy road closures occur), inhale that fresh air! Make sure you take a jumper or jacket, even in summer, as it can get cool at the summit.

About half an hour south of Huonville is Geeveston, big tree country. Geeveston is the gateway to the Hartz National Park and is a great town to visit, particularly good for families. The playground here has recently been upgraded with a flying fox, climbing frame, swings and bike paths and is great for toddlers to teens. There is also the platypus walk nearby along the river, where you can quite often spot a platypus! Geeveston has a couple of great cafes and bakeries, including the Old Bank of Geeveston Cafe, with incredible dishes, coffee and home made cakes. Wear your stretchy pants!

Looking for a beautiful bush walk track and a waterfall, without driving for hours? Snug Falls is for you! Only about half an hour from the farm, Snug Falls is spectacular, and most of the time, you’ll pretty much have the place to yourself! The return walk on the track to the base of the falls is about an hour return, and can get steep and slippery with mud at times. The track is not suitable for prams. The base of the waterfall is surrounded with ferns and lush vegetation - a perfect place to enjoy Tassie’s fresh air and take some amazing holiday photos.
