Sightseeing and Walking
Definitely one of my favourites, a truly picturesque harbour village with steep pedestrianised cobbled streets, flower-strewn cottages, museums, workshops and coffee shops . (Lots to do). The 18th century pub named the "Red Lion' and the 400 year old 'New Inn' offer breath-taking views- with delicious food too. If you like walking then Clovelly also offers stunning lengthy walks along the cliff tops, either towards the dramatic scenery of Hartland Point or through the woods towards Bideford Bay with delightful views back towards Clovelly. Dogs are welcome in the village, lots of water bowls out for them. There is a charge to visit this village but well worth paying as Clovelly is packed with lots to see and do. You could easily spend a day there, soaking up the history and atmosphere of the village history and traditions, not to mention sampling the lunches, dinners and cream teas if you’re hungry enough! If you really can't face the walk back "up-a-long” there is a fare-paying Land Rover service to help you out!

Catch a passenger ferry (March to October) to Lundy Island from Bideford Quay. Or helicopter.
Lundy is known for its excellent walking and as the perfect place to see puffins and other special seabirds.

Low tide is particularly wonderful offering a sandy beach to stroll along. If the tide is high when you arrive then the walks along the coastal path each way are spectacular. Perfect place to have a picnic too.

Westward Ho!
Great surfing beach and stunning coastal walks back towards Clovelly or into Appledore and beyond. Bit commercialised in part but if you need a local beach walk whilst watching the surfers, or fancy surfing - this is the place. Great pasties and places to eat …. Not forgetting that view
Spend a glorious day here walking around the beautiful gardens, eating a delicious lunch, soaking up the history of the abbey and a walk along the coastal path too. I'm a Steward here, so maybe I'm a little biased :) well worth a visit.

Once again, Appledore Lifeboat Station is organizing the now popular Station to Station Sponsored Walk.
This is a spectacular 16 mile walk along the SW Coastal Path between Lifeboat Stations, raising funds for the local RNLI. Registration fee is £6.
BBQ and drinks at the finish. There will be transport back to Clovelly if required.
